National Gallery of Arts in Tirana is proud to present the 22nd International Onufri Prize, Stranger than Kindness – Mitrush Kuteli, curated by the albanian artist Fani Zguro with the support of The Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Sports. The exhibition will occupy all the spaces of National Gallery of Arts and part of this show are also the special projects Cinema and Taxi (originates by Anri Sala’s No Formula One No Cry – Taxi). Inspired from the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds hit (“Stranger than Kindness”), this edition is dedicated to the Albanian writer Mitrush Kuteli (1907–67). The exhibition will be open for the public from December 15, 2016 until February 1, 2017.
Fani Zguro was born in 1977 in Tirana. Lives and works in Berlin. Zguro studied at Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. In 2007 he won the International Onufri Prize organized by National Gallery of Arts in Tirana, in 2016 the International Mulliqi Prize organized by the National Gallery of Kosovo in Prishtina and Best Video-Art organized by TIFF. Zguro is part of the program Artists-in-residence at Q21, Museumsquartier for 2017 in Vienna. He has exhibited at Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin, National Museum of Contemporary Art Bucharest, Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Mediterranée Marseille, Filmoteca Espanola Madrid, Docva Careof Milan, 2nd Tirana Biennale, 3rd Mardin Biennale, 4th Young Artists Biennale of Bucharest, Ludwig Museum Budapest, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka, Public Library New York and Centre Pompidou Paris.
