Art Athina, International Fair for Contemporary Art, opens its 22nd edition, in Athens, May 26 through 28, 2017.
Art Athina welcomes Stamatia Dimitrakopoulos as the newly appointed Artistic Director.
This year marks a major rebranding in every aspect of the art fair: new identity, new website, new team of people, new structure, new parallel program, new VIP program.
Main
The main exhibition will take place in the central area of TaeKwonDo Stadium, where local and international galleries present their program.
Highlight
The Highlight section hosts 20 international young galleries with exceptional program.
Feature
A section conceived and organized by an annually appointed curator. This year’s section will be curated by Myriam Ben Salah (b. 1985, Algiers) editor-in-chief of Kaleidoscope magazine and curator based in Paris. Ben Salah has been coordinating special projects and public programs at Palais de Tokyo since 2009, focusing especially on performance art, video and publishing initiatives.
Tribute
An annual tribute to an artist or institution. In Art Athina 2017, the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation pays tribute to the work of Jannis Kounellis and the National Gallery to the work of Dimitris Mitaras.
Video
The video & screening program, conceived and presented by an annually appointed curator. This year the section will be curated by Alexander Burenkov (b.1987, Saint Petersburg), curator, writer and art director based in Moscow. Alexander’s field of research focuses on the young Russian art scene and international emergent art practices and trends. He has worked as curator with Moscow Polytechnic Museum, Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture and Design, the V-A-C Foundation and ISSMAG gallery.
Survey
A group show featuring historical material borrowed from the main exhibitors, curated by Galini Notti.
Part of the Survey program is also Katerina Zacharopoulou’ s installation Asking, presented in collaboration with Neon Organization.
Talks
Round tables, panels and discussions fueled from every section of Art Athina.
Performance
The performance program features artists from the participating galleries and is curated by Artemis Potamianou.
Open
Τhe annual open air installation of Art Athina, this year will be presented by Sonora128, a billboard project space by kurimanzutto gallery, programmed by Bree Zucker.
Design
The design section of Art Athina.
Publications
Οmmu publishing house selects and brings to Art Athinazines, artists books, publications and ephemera along with a stage program incorporated in Talks.
Education
Educational workshop program addressed to kids.
Along with the new structure of the fair, Art Athina has organized a newly designed two-tier VIP program, focused specially on the first choice international and local collectors and also young collectors for whom it has created a special program.
