For its 3rd edition, ASIA NOW continues to explore the artistic scenes in Asia, presenting 30 of the most influential and internationally recognised galleries from the continent.  The boutique art fair which has developed an audacious and rigorous programme continues to reaffirm its position as a key event in the international arts calendar, unveiling the richness and diversity of the Asian art scene. A new development this year will be its focus on the South Korean art scene.

ASIA NOW will bring together, in the intimate setting of a Parisian private mansion, galleries representing artists from territories across Asia. Aiming to strengthen the ties between collectors, artists, and their works, ASIA NOW will invite visitors to wander from one room to another as if they were in a collector’s private home.

Newcomers this year include Chambers Fine Art (Beijing, China / New York, United States), PIFO Gallery (Beijing, China), Gallery SoSo (Gyeonggi-do, South Korea), Gallery Su (Shanghai, China), and Galerie Liusa Wang (Paris, France).

The fair will also present returning galleries such as AIKE DELLARCO (Shanghai, China), A Thousand Plateaus Art Space (Chengdu, China), A2Z Art Gallery (Paris, France / Hong Kong, China), CHOI&LAGER (Köln, Germany / Seoul, South Korea), ifa gallery (Brussels, Belgium / Shanghai, China), Magda Danysz Gallery (Shanghai, China / Paris, France / London, United Kingdom), Pierre-Yves Caër Gallery (Paris, France), Primo Marella Gallery and Primae Noctis Gallery (Milan, Italy / Lugano, Switzerland), Tang Contemporary Art Center (Beijing and Hong Kong, China / Bangkok, Thailand), The Columns Gallery (Seoul, South Korea), The Drawing Room (Makati City, Philippines), as well as A3(Berlin, Germany / Singapore) attending for the third consecutive year and presenting a solo show of Philippine artist Marina Cruz curated by Matthias Arndt.

This year, ASIA NOW will showcase the special project Cloudy Depths: Five Artists and Their Take On Neo-Mōrōism, curated by Wei Xiangqi. Through the works of Tai Xiangzhou, Wang Shuye, Ye Jianqing, Wei Yan and Zhu Jianzhong, the project will explore the notion of “neo-mōrōism,” a school of thought that aspires for a return to nature and to spirituality through introspection.

Korean Platform
ASIA NOW will highlight the contemporary South Korean scene, through a special programme curated and coordinated by Joanne Kim. The Korean Platform will feature exhibitions, conferences, video projections and performances, bringing to light the artistic richness of the “Land of the Morning Calm.”

Among the galleries participating in the Korean Platform, CHOI&LAGER, Gallery Su, The Columns Gallery, Gallery SoSo, Galerie Françoise Livinec, and Galerie Maria Lund who will dedicate their spaces to both established and emerging artists.

The curatorial team of the Busan Biennale 2018 will present a project focused on distinguished artists of the Korean avant-garde. Entitled an/other avant-garde, this special exhibition will present Korean artists from the avant-garde movement period, which followed the Danseakhwa art movement. It is a continuation of last year’s journey through the theme an/other avant-garde china-japan-korea. A curatorial talk will also be organized by the new art director of the 2018 Busan Biennale, to be appointed this July.

As part of the Artists Talks & Film Screenings programme, young Korean artists, including digital artists Kelvin Kyung Kun Park, candidate for the ARTSPECTRUM Award at the Samsung Museum of Art last year, Lee Wan, representing South Korea in this year’s Venice Biennale, and Ayoung Kim, are invited to present their films and discuss the limits of this medium.

The complete programme, including the detailed Korean Platform, Talks, Design Project and final list of participating galleries will be announced shortly.
