India Art Fair—South Asia’s leading Modern and Contemporary Art Fair, invites galleries to apply for its tenth edition, February 9 to 12, 2018 in New Delhi.
As the first member of MCH group’s portfolio of regional art and design fairs, India Art Fair will continue its commitment to South Asian Art and further establish its position as a portal into the region’s cultural landscape. Working closely with its exhibitors, the fair will present a refreshed curatorial approach to its programme showcasing strong, regionally relevant content across all four sections: Galleries, Focus, Platform and Institutional.
Galleries: Featuring leading Indian and international galleries
Focus: Open for galleries presenting a curated showcase or body of work by a single artist
Platform: Open to galleries, artist collectives and foundations within the South Asian region
Institutional: Leading private museums, cultural institutions and art foundations are invited to present curated elements of their programme
In 2017, the fair welcomed 72 exhibiting booths and 17 art projects along with museum directors, curators and collectors from over 25 countries. Galleries reported their highest sales at India Art Fair to date, to institutions, regional and international collectors. Thirty percent galleries reported first time sales to new buyers suggesting a market that is equally interested in discovering emerging and established talent.
Furthering the fair’s commitment to the region, India Art Fair reinforces its outreach campaign and programme throughout the year, with an emphasis on strengthening and fostering relationships and dialogue with patrons, practitioners and institutions alike.
With a shared ambition to promote cultural discourse and provide a platform for integral conversations, The Forum will further evolve with topics that concern a burgeoning art market, through Speakers’ Forum and Film Programme. The Forum investigates relationships between artistic practices, the market, collecting, the impact of global trends and the reinvention of roles through artist collectives, social causes and technology.
Building a unique narrative for its tenth edition, the fair will look at qualitative interventions and new additions to the existing ancillary experiences, alongside a carefully curated VIP Programme.
India Art Fair’s place and significance in driving the Indian and South Asian art markets into a global context was re-affirmed in 2016, by world leading exhibition organizers MCH Group taking a co-ownership stake in India Art Fair. Distinctive backgrounds along with vast experience amongst co-owners MCH Group, Angus Montgomery and Founder, Neha Kirpal, support India Art Fair as it evolves and continues its mission to showcase a depth of diversity and cultural identity that is unmatched in South Asia.
India Art Fair is also delighted to announce the continued support and engagement of BMW as Presenting Partner of India Art Fair 2018, for the third consecutive year. For over 40 years, the BMW Group has made a significant contribution to culture, initiating over 100 cultural collaborations worldwide, from commissioned works by Gerhard Richter for the BMW Group’s Munich headquarters to projects with artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Olafur Eliasson and Jeff Koons. In 2013, the BMW Guggenheim Lab—a global initiative of the BMW Group, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, and the Guggenheim Museum—premiered in India at the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai.
