FLAT – fiera libro arte Torino, founded by Chiara Caroppo, Beatrice Merz and Mario Petriccione takes place from November 3 to 5, 2017 at Palazzo Cisterna,a historical palace in the city center.

The new fair aims at creating a valuable space for promoting the finest international production of exhibition catalogs, monographs, theoretical writings, artist’s books, rare and out of print editions, and magazines, bringing together leading publishers as well as small, independent presses, bookmakers, artists, collectors and bibliophiles.

FLAT’scultural program features two exhibitions: the monographic show Ettore Sottsass. Le pagine at Palazzo Birago, and the group exhibit Lettura per voci e silenzio at Palazzo Cisterna, both curated by Elena Volpato.

The fair will be sided by a Public Program, a multifaceted series of lectures, talks, conversations, workshops, readings, screenings, music and book launches curated by Francesca Valentini. On the occasion of FLAT international artists, designers, curators, professionals and experts from the art and artist publishing world gather in Turin to present and discuss the relevance of the book as an object, medium and instrument for art, its distribution and circulation. On the occasion of FLAT, the GAM – Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art will be the recipient of the Giorgio Maffei Fund—devoted to the Turin bibliophile and great collector of rare 20th century art books who passed away last year. The Fund will gather the acquisitions made by the CRT Foundation for Modern and Contemporary Art within the fair. CRT Foundation also supports the establishment of the FLAT Prize – CRT Art Foundation—to be assigned to a publishing project suggested by the exhibitors, and to be printed the following year.

FLAT founders and organizers are sided by a Scientific Committee consisting of Liliana Dematteis, curator of artist books and collector, Richard Flood, Director of Special Projects and Curator At Large, New Museum, New York, David Senior, Head of Library and Archives, SFMOMA, San Francisco, Ken Soehner, Chief Librarian, Watson Library, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and New York artist Lawrence Weiner, who generously designed the Fair logo.  

FLAT is carried out under the patronage of Regione Piemonte, Città di Torino and Città metropolitana di Torino; in partnership with Lavazza, with the support of the Fondazione Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT and of the Camera di Commercio di Torino.
