As part of the project Friend of a Friend (FOAF), eight of the most significant and thriving Warsaw galleries promoting contemporary art (BWA Warszawa, Dawid Radziszewski, Foksal Gallery Foundation, LETO, Piktogram, Raster, Stereo, Wschód) will share their exhibition space with international guests. These include galleries from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Based on dialogue, the resulting collective exhibitions will feature Polish as well as international artists.
The idea behind “FOAF” refers to the “Condo” initiative, the first edition of which was held in London in 2016. Based on the principle of friendly collaboration (rather than competition, which is often associated with the art market), the event not only succeeded in establishing an innovative platform on which to present contemporary art, but also an exchange model that provides an alternative to art fairs. By bringing this model to Warsaw, “FOAF” offers the local audience the possibility to see works by international artists (some of them not exhibited in Poland before) and compare their achievements to the works of their Polish counterparts. At the same time foreign guests (gallerists, artists, as well as collectors, curators and journalists) are given an opportunity to explore and discover Warsaw’s art scene as well as to place it in a broader international context.
Invited galleries: Bernhard (Zürich) / ChertLüdde (Berlin) / Crevecoeur (Paris) / Durst Britt & Mayhew (The Hague) / Ermes-Ermes (Vienna) / Future (Berlin / Mexico City) / Lucas Hirsch (Düsseldorf) / Hunt Kastner (Prague) / Jan Kaps (Cologne) / Antoine Levi (Paris) / Lomex (New York) / Neue Alte Brücke (Frankfurt) / Reserve Ames (Los Angeles) / SVIT (Prague) / Union Pacific (London)
The event is co-organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Stereo, and Wschód Gallery with financial support from the Culture Department of the City of Warsaw.
Opening weekend: April 7–8, 12-7pm (exhibitions run until April 28)
