The Vice-Chancellor of Lund University has appointed two new professors to the Malmö Art Academy. We welcome Emily Wardill and Fredrik Værslev to the Academy.

Emily Wardill is employed as a professor of free art, focusing on material-based films and narrative structures.

Emily Wardill (born in 1977) is one of the world’s most acclaimed artists who works with film and performance. In her enigmatic films she blends truth and fiction, symbolism and reality, feeling and reason. She deconstructs our well-known way of understanding the world and provides alternatives. Wardill has had numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Bergen Kunsthall, Gulbenkian Preject Spaces in Lisbon, Altman Siegal in San Francisco, Carlier Gebauer in Berlin, Lund Art Hall and La Casa Encendida in Madrid.

Fredrik Værslev is employed as a professor in fine art with a focus on conceptual painting.

Fredrik Værslev (born in 1979) is a very influential artist in the international discussion about contemporary painting. He works with conceptual painting, and through this he explores and moves limits on how painting can be perceived. In order to do that, a deep knowledge of the discourse of painting is required. Værslev has an unusually lively exhibition practice and, among other things, he was named the yearly Festival Artist of Bergen in 2016. He is represented in several major collections, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

Malmö Art Academy is an internationally renowned fine arts programme at Lund University, Scandinavia’s largest comprehensive university. The Academy is a state-financed school of fine arts with 74 students offering a three-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programme and a two-year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programme. In addition, it offers a two-year MFA programme in Critical & Pedagogical Studies and a Doctorate Programme in Fine Arts.
