Application deadline March 5, 2018
The potential of art as a driver of economic activity has grown in recent years. A number of art forms and projects have transformed many cities into pull factors of tourism and economic and cultural dynamics. Besides providing more democratic access to art and entertainment, new technologies are beginning to cause significant changes in the way that cultural bodies and organizations operate and how the public sees them.
To address these challenges and opportunities, NYU Steinhardt (New York University), Deusto Business School, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao have joined forces to offer ILPVAM, designed for professionals with at least five years’ relevant experience in the field of visual arts or related arts disciplines.
The Bilbao module (March 19–23, 2018) offers a global perspective, with presentations and discussion of the unparalleled success of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao as a linchpin of the visionary Bilbao Master Plan. Sessions also focus on cutting-edge concepts and practices in cultural entrepreneurship, international collaboration, exhibition management, and curatorial practices and audience management, among others. Business strategy and innovation, financial management, and operations strategy provide participants with essential knowledge of the latest methods and approaches as they apply them to the arts and cultural industries.
In the New York module (June 18–22, 2018), leadership and change are presented as key aspects of the business focus, with an extensive array of visual arts concerns addressed by experts from a range of organizations in New York. Topics include governance, fundraising, cultural marketing and communication, intellectual property rights, digital strategy, cultural diplomacy, and developing community.
ILPVAM offers participants a chance to reflect and reassess their professional practice, and to innovatively rethink their next steps by taking a fresh look at the challenges and opportunities present in the visual arts community. This highly immersive program provides a chance for frank exchange with participant peers from all over the world and a roster of experts from both the art and business sectors.
Completion of the two modules leads to the award of a Program Certificate by New York University and the University of Deusto.
Tuition: 4,200 EUR
Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships covering up to 30% of the tuition fee are available, through support from the Fundación Vizcaína Aguirre and Fundación Gondra Barandiaran.
