Headlands Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the 54 artists and collaboratives awarded for its renowned Artist in Residence program for 2018, including discipline-specific awards for painting, social practice, and teaching, as well as four Project Space awards. Including local and international artists from 15 states and 15 countries, the creative practitioners in this year’s lineup will begin arriving at Headlands in late February and will conduct four- to ten-week residencies through November 2018. The fully sponsored, live-in fellowships are designed to support and sustain the artistic process.
2018 Headlands awardees are listed below by award and discipline.
Chamberlain Award for social practice to Frances Whitehead
The Chamberlain Award supports artists who display exceptional merit in the discipline of social practice with a fully sponsored residency and a 5,000 USD cash prize.
Chiaro Award for painting to Benjamin Britton
The Chiaro Award is a fully sponsored residency and 15,000 USD cash prize for an accomplished mid-career painter residing in the United States.
Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship to Katharine Kuharic
Administered in partnership with the San Francisco Art Institute, the Diebenkorn Fellowship provides an opportunity for visiting artists to teach at the school during their residency.
Project Space Residencies to Fiamma Cordero de Montezemolo, Lucas Foglia, Gala Porras-Kim, Ji Yeon Lim
These artists will host open studio hours and a culminating Project Space exhibition during their stay.

Founded in 1982, Headlands Center for the Arts operates a multidisciplinary, international arts center best known for its dynamic public programs and highly lauded artist residency.
