Cities and their spaces change with the rhythm of the seasons. In summer 2018, the square at the heart of the Centro Cultural de Belém became the stage for an ephemeral construction that highlighted this transitory dimension to places and things. Through an architectural work in cork, with the capacity to stimulate the senses and to redevise the mechanics of a space, it became possible to give form to this transformation of place and to experience the nature of materials, of their structural behaviour and technical potential. Garagem Sul challenged Promontorio Architects to design a construction whose ephemeral life might perhaps live on in the memory of those who had the pleasure of experiencing it.
This installation will be the stage for open air screenings of Murray Grigor’s films, a Scottish director who uses architecture as one of the fundamental elements of his work.

A Square in Summer runs parallel to the exhibition Building Stories, showcasing works from de vylder vinck taillieu, Maio and Ricardo Bak Gordon, an experiment on how architecture is produced and built. The exhibition was curated by Rodrigo da Costa Lima and Amélia Brandão Costa to create a landscape as a building site in order to transcend the limits of the museum space and focus on architecture as a discipline.
