This year’s rendition of the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art (SFSIA) entitled “Art and Politics in the Age of Cognitive Capitalism” will concern new sites of artistic laboring in the age of Cognitive Capitalism in which the mind and brain are the new factories of the 21st Century. This special edition of the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art is hosted by Otis College of Art and Design at their Los Angeles campus, with participation of the MA Aesthetics and Politics program in the School of Critical Studies at CalArts. It will understand the consequences for artistic production created by this paradigm shift. Three topics will form the core interests of the academy: immaterial labor and performance, epigenesis and neural plasticity, artificial intelligence. Essential for us is Gilles Deleuze’s idea, developed in his Cinema 2: The Time-Image, that new circuits in art mean new circuits in the brain, too.
