The Visual Arts Summer Intensives are six-week, six-credit workshops based on the elements and structure of Columbia University’s Visual Arts MFA degree program. These hands-on workshops provide individual and group feedback to challenge and advance students’ work in an immersive and nurturing environment. Our Intensive courses are geared towards students who aim to develop new ideas and approaches in their artwork and also those who wish to develop an outstanding portfolio appropriate for MFA program applications.

Advanced Painting Intensive
Instructors:
Professor Gregory Amenoff; Adjunct Professor Michael Berryhill; Adjunct Professor Dana Lok

The Advanced Painting Intensive mentors a group of up to 12 students through individual and group critique, technical tutorials, exposure to the New York gallery and museum worlds, and lectures and critiques by nationally known visiting artists. This workshop includes a seminar in professional practices for artists and a seminar in key readings about contemporary art. Each student works in an individual studio space with 24-hour access.

Printmaking Intensive
Instructors:
Professor Tomas Vu-Daniel; Adjunct Professor Craig Zammiello; Adjunct Professor Nathan Catlin

The Printmaking Intensive focuses on teaching students new and traditional printmaking techniques and developing skills on all levels through tutorials, individual and group critique, and lectures by nationally known artists. Students and professionals will have access to all printmaking techniques, but will focus in on their primary area of interest. In this course, students visit artists’ studios around the city and tour prime New York print shops. Students are also exposed to the inner workings of the publishing operation of the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies at Columbia.
