The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design is proud to announce the Winter 2018 Penny W. Stamps Distinguished Speaker Series. The Penny Stamps Speaker Series brings respected innovators from a broad spectrum of fields to Southeast Michigan to conduct a public lecture for Stamps students, faculty, and the general public. This winter, the series will present 13 speaker series events including MacArthur “Genius” Fellow, poet, and playwright Claudia Rankine; filmmaker and artist Hito Steyerl; bio-artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg in conversation with Chelsea Manning; choreographer Yvonne Rainer; Caldecott Medal recipient Brian Selznick, author and illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret; and many more.
Speaking on the Winter 2018 Speaker Series, Chrisstina Hamilton, Director of Visitors’ Programs at Stamps, stated: “This winter’s Penny Stamps Speaker Series continues the theme ‘E pluribus unum’ and connects us with creatives from a broad spectrum of fields, encouraging us to ask big questions about what shapes our culture, our society, and our personhood.”
A full listing of winter 2018 events can be found at pennystampsevents.org. Unless otherwise noted, all programs take place on Thursdays at 5:10pm at the Michigan Theater (603 E. Liberty St.) in downtown Ann Arbor and are free of charge and open to the public.
