Program description
The Department of Art’s interdisciplinary graduate program encourages students to work across disciplines with comprehensive resources offered in areas of photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, art and technology, ceramics, fibers, jewelry and metalsmithing and sculpture. The MFA program is a three-year course of study that involves rigorous studio investigation, critical discourse, and conceptual development. Emphasis is placed on curriculum tailored to the needs of the individual student while encouraging exploration and risk-taking.
Approximately 30 students constitute a tight-knit community of MFA candidates. MFAs have frequent contact with professionally active faculty members, nationally and internationally recognized visiting artists, critics and curators. Working intensively in independent studios on the Eugene campus, students benefit from the context of a world-class research university in the compelling Pacific Northwest.
Financial support
The Department of Art provides generous funding for MFA Candidates during their three years of study. Support ranges from teaching appointments to lab assistance, tuition waivers, and scholarships. Awarded annually and contingent on merit and availability, Graduate Fellowships provide significant financial support as well as teaching and professional experience.
