The Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) is a 501c3 public nonprofit exhibition and research center established in 2013 in New York City to promote public appreciation and advance the study of modern and contemporary Italian art in the United States and internationally. Each academic year CIMA presents in its spacious loft in SoHo an installation examining the work of modern Italian artists rarely exhibited in the US. These installations bring the art of inspiring masters into dialogue with contemporary artists, illustrating the impact and ongoing resonance today of Italian modern art. The Center also offers multiple opportunities for scholars to deepen and present their research, through various fellowships, public programs, and signature Study Days.
Call for 2018–19 CIMA fellows
Each year CIMA awards multiple fellowships to support research in and study of Italian modern and contemporary art for doctoral and post-doctoral scholars. Citizens of all nationalities are eligible.
–Marino Marini Fellowships: six to nine months at CIMA, held in conjunction with the 2018-19 exhibition season
–CIMA Travel Fellowships: for non-Italian scholars to conduct research in Italy
–CIMA-Civitella Fellowship: a six-week writing residency in Italy for art historians

Call for papers: Alberto Savinio Study Days
CIMA’s current exhibition, Alberto Savinio, on view through June 23, presents the first U.S. exhibition of the work of Alberto Savinio in over two decades. An exceptional visual artist and member of the Parisian avant-garde, Savinio was also a gifted and prolific writer, critic, pianist, composer, and set designer. The Savinio Study Days will be an occasion to gather together scholarly contributions in the histories of art, literature, theater, and music, illuminating the artist’s renowned interdisciplinarity. Unlike conventional conferences, the Study Days will provide a rare opportunity to discuss the artist’s career while surrounded by numerous examples of his work. Panel topics: Savinio’s legacy including his impact on contemporary artist movements, Savinio as critic and subject of criticism, and sources and symbols informing Savinio’s work.
