Vardiya / The Shift, the project that will be exhibited at the Pavilion of Turkey at the 16th Venice International Architecture Biennale under the coordination of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) invites architecture students from all over the world to join a series of events and workshops that will take place between May 26 and November 25, 2018.
Within the scope of Vardiya / The Shift, architecture students who will go to Venice on weekly shifts during the 16th Venice International Architecture Biennale will be included in a broad participatory project within the framework of this year’s biennale theme Freespace.
Architecture students who will be hosted by İKSV in Venice will participate in the events and workshops organised in the Pavilion of Turkey to create an exhibition content which is expected to derive and flourish over time. Vardiya / The Shift aims to provide the necessary environment and facilities for architecture students while encouraging an active approach for being producers of the exhibition content, instead of just being followers.
The programme is open for international applications from undergraduate and graduate architecture students. To apply, students must include a portfolio, which includes their resume, sketches, designs, drawings from their coursework as well as their individual or group productions for design competitions, workshops etc. along with a short video on the theme of this open call. The video should be 30 to 60 seconds long and should address one or more answers to the questions “Why does the biennial exist?,” “What does the biennial do?” and ”For whom does the biennial exist?.”
For more details and to apply, please visit vardiya.iksv.org or send an email to vardiya [at] iksv.org until February 1, 2018.
Vardiya / The Shift is curated by Kerem Piker. Associate curators include Cansu Cürgen, Yelta Köm, Nizam Onur Sönmez, Yağız Söylev and Erdem Tüzün.
The Pavilion of Turkey exhibition is coordinated by İKSV, and realised with the co-sponsorship of Schüco Turkey and VitrA, and under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey. The Pavilion of Turkey at the 14th Venice International Architecture Biennale was realised in 2014 for the first time, upon a 20-year allotment with İKSV’s initiation and the contribution of 21 supporters.
