Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI) announces a nationwide search to recruit a new Dean for the Herron School of Art and Design, the state of Indiana’s premiere professional art and design school. Engaged with IUPUI’s urban campus and Indianapolis’ thriving art, business, and other cultural communities, Herron follows the requirements for curriculum distribution of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
The Herron School enrolls more than 800 students in 14 academic programs in Fine Art Studio, Visual Communication Design, Art Education, Art History, and Art Therapy and employs approximately 50 FTE faculty. The School has over 70 studio spaces and more than 10,000 feet of exhibition space. Herron spans two buildings on the IUPUI campus—a total of 200,000 square feet of studios, galleries, and other inspirational spaces. The School’s operating budget is approximately USD 13 million. (Additional information about the School can be found online).
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, the Dean is the chief executive officer of Herron and is responsible for fulfilling the School’s mission and realizing its vision. It is expected that the new Dean will demonstrate the ability to increase enrollment, cultivate new and ongoing community relationships, and further develop the alumni relations and career placement functions. Working with the other Deans and the Executive Vice President, the Herron Dean will continue to cultivate and foster collaborations for the School with other units on campus. (A “Leadership Statement” providing more complete information about the position will soon be available on the Herron School website).
While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new Dean is selected, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant at the address below by February 1 to assure optimal consideration. Application materials should include a letter of interest and a recent resume.
