The CalArts MA Aesthetics and Politics Program is proud to announce that Judith Butler will be its 2018 Theorist in Residence.
Judith Butler is Maxine Elliot Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Program of Critical Theory at the University of California Berkeley, and is a prominent continental philosopher and gender theorist. She is the author of notable books, including Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity and Frames of War: When is Life Grievable?
Reprising her role as CalArts’ MA Aesthetics and Politics Program’s Theorist in Residence in spring 2015, Butler will deliver two new public lectures in addition to teaching a seminar for MA students assembled under the collective title “Interpreting Non-Violence”.
About the MA Aesthetics and Politics Program
The MA Aesthetics and Politics Program offers a unique degree experience that encourages interrogations of the arts and politics in an expanded field. Students specialize in Critical Theory, Global Studies, or Media and Urban Studies and get up close and personal with key contemporary artists and thinkers, including new faculty members Sara Mameni and Andrew Culp.
