The Board of the Serralves Foundation is seeking to appoint a new Director to the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto.
The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art is the foremost museum for contemporary art in Portugal and one of Europe’s most renowned institutions for contemporary art and culture. Uniquely sited in the grounds of the Serralves Foundation in Porto—which also comprises an 18-hectare Park and the Serralves Villa, a landmark art deco building—the Museum, designed by Alvaro Siza opened in 1999. Through its exhibitions, collection, publications, performing arts and education programmes, Serralves fosters the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art and culture in Portugal and around the world.
In the next Director, the Board seeks an outstanding candidate with international standing, a track record for excellence and innovation in artistic programming and with the leadership ability to match the requirements of this significant role, ensuring the Museum’s strong positioning in Portugal and internationally. The successful candidate will have the ambition to raise the profile and recognition of the Museum leading the organisation into the next chapter of its significant history within the Serralves Foundation as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2019.
