Applications are now being accepted for the Sound Art program, an interdepartmental program offered in association with the Visual Arts Program, the Department of Music and the Computer Music Center, leading to the MFA degree awarded by Columbia University School of the Arts.
Columbia University has been at the helm of sound innovation for over 50 years, with faculty specializing in sound, composition, improvisation, installation, sculpture, electronic music, acoustics, music cognition and software development. Sound Art students work closely with faculty from Sound Art, Composition, Sound Studies, Ethnomusicology, the Computer Music Center, and Visual Arts, and have access to production facilities and equipment including a recording studio, rehearsal room, electronics lab, and wood, metal and ceramics shops and field recording equipment.
Prospective students with a deep engagement with sound as medium and a desire to join a diverse community of artists and musicians are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is January 17, 2018.
