Inaugural MFA-AI class thesis exhibition: FIRST
This summer marked the first graduation of our inaugural class from Sierra Nevada College’s MFA-IA Low Residency program, as well as the opening of their thesis exhibition, aptly entitled, FIRST. During the August residency, we also met eight new brand new students from across the country, each of them bringing with them unique backgrounds and practices, from jazz-drumming to screen-writing to fiber arts. We were supported by faculty members, Peter RostovskyRobert Reynolds, Gabie Strong, Sameer Farooq, Mary Donnelly and Beth Campbell.

Cabin-Time is a roaming creative residency to remote places. Through work and play that is both off-the-grid and on-the-land, Cabin-Time provides an opportunity for creative experimentation, adventures in landscape, and forever friendships. Cabin-Time: E. Sierras (CT8) took 14 artists from around the United States to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains for nine days in April 2017.

About the program
Sierra Nevada College is a small, liberal arts college, located three blocks from Lake Tahoe, within a national forest, on an easily accessible campus in Incline Village, NV. The low-residency MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts is a locus for creative problem solving, fostered by creative thinking with an emphasis on community. The experience and exploration of embodied place is a central element of this distinctive program, encouraging students’ multi-dimensional relationship with their environment both in the Tahoe Basin and within their own communities.

The program consists of two intensive ten-day, on-campus residencies during summer and winter sessions over the course of two and a half years. During the fall and spring semesters, students will work in their home studios and continue relationships with faculty mentors and fellow colleagues remotely through online seminars and other points of contact.
