Additional artistic research funds granted

Royal Institute of Art is one of the Art Academies in Sweden that in the governments budget bill for 2018 received extra research grants. These extra 5 million SEK will give the Royal institute of Art grants for research and research education for a total of 11 million SEK per year until 2020.

The research environment at the Royal Institute of Art is focusing on art, the conditions of artistic production and contemporary challenges for an artistic practice within and outside of the Art World and the field of Architecture.

At the Institute artistic research and development projects are conducted, projects by doctoral candidates and externally financed research projects. Ongoing research activities includes a wide range of subjects, approaches and methods which are amongst other activities, presented during the annual public Research Week in January.

Four projects financed by the Swedish Research Council and led by: Ellie Ga, “Message in a bottle: Drift and Discovery”, Björn Larsson och Carl Johan Erikson “Refuse to Kill – Stories of the Conscientious Objectors”, Mara Lee “Loving Others, Othering Love: A Toolbox for Postcolonial and Feministic Artistic Practices”, Karin Hansson och Åsa Andersson Broms Shiva Anoushirvani, Nils Claesson, Per Hasselberg samt George Kentros “Work a work”.

Current PhD Programme: Emanuel Almborg ”The Utopian Image – Absolute and Incomplete. The Conditions of a Utopian Function in Art and Artist-Film”, Kajsa Dahlberg “Chronic Features – on the materiality and the theatricality of time”, Melanie Gilligan “Mind of We”, Oscar Lara “Engaging for a Revolutionary Future” and Olivia Plender “Society is a Workshop”.
