Larry Sultan Photography Award Lecture by Awoiska van der Molen
Thursday, October 5, 7pm, Offsite at California College of the Arts, San Francisco Campus
Amsterdam-based photographer, and current Artist in Residence, Awoiska van der Molen spends long periods of time in solitude in remote landscapes, slowly and intuitively uncovering the identity of each place and searching for the boundaries between self and surroundings. The findings of these experiences are later revealed in her large-scale, monochromatic silver gelatin prints. van der Molen will speak to her practice as part of the Larry Sultan Photography Award series, presented in partnership with California College of the Arts, Pier 24 Photography, and SFMOMA.
Desire Trails
Sunday, November 12, 12pm
Desire paths are well-trodden trails created by foot traffic, where the ground becomes imprinted evidence of a place that wants to be discovered, and the people who seek it out. Grab your walking stick for this edition of Desire Trails, where sculptural sound artists—including Wayne Grim and Andy Puls—will tune our ears to a whole new experience of the landscape.
Special event:
Under the Stars: outdoor movie screening
Friday, November 17, 7–10pm
Help us to close out the year by cozying up in The Commons—Headlands’ brand new, artist-designed gathering space—for a night of outdoor cinema featuring short films made and selected by current and past Artists in Residence, live music, and more. Wear warm layers and bring some blankets, and we’ll keep you well-fed with unrivaled movie snacks and hot drinks available for purchase from an array of food and drink purveyors.
