The Davidoff Art Initiative (DAI) is pleased to name Rodell Warner (b. 1986, Trinidad and Tobago) as the artist behind the 2017 Limited Art Edition, ahead of Davidoff’s return to Art Basel in Hong Kong this month. The Trinidadian artist explores interpersonal relations by employing digital media and photography, creating unique patterns and projections. His efforts toward the third Limited Art Edition utilize pixels, culling from the same natural patterns—water, soil, air, leaves—that weave through Davidoff’s handcrafted products. “This exploration of how an image on the surface can effect the perception of an object is the focus of my work now, and where I believe I find a visual uniqueness,” says Warner, reflecting on his approach to the Davidoff Limited Art Edition. “I enjoy the universality of this exploration, as the viewer is not asked to be familiar with any specific cultural references in order to access the work.”

Conceived as an ode to Davidoff’s Caribbean terroir and inspired by the lushly forested Damajagua region in northwestern Dominican Republic, the Masterpiece is created by renowned French marquetry artist Rose Saneuil. The end result reflects Davidoff’s commitment to excellence and craftsmanship in its products, its collaborative spirit with artists, as well as its deep connection to and love of its fertile Caribbean home.

Both the Art Basel 47 Yearbook and Sea Is History will be available in the Davidoff Lounge.
