Clothing Optional
August 5–9, 2017
California Institute of the Arts 2017 MFA Graduates in the programs of Art, Art & Tech, and Photo & Media are pleased to announce their post-graduate exhibition Clothing Optional, organized by Sohrab Mohebbi of REDCAT. Clothing Optional will be held at Night Gallery and run from August 5 to August 9 with the opening reception taking place on August 5 from 6–9pm.
Clothing Optional is an exhibition that features work by 30 artists, all recent graduates of CalArts, whose practices use an extensive range of media and explore a vast variety of topics. CalArts’ unbound curriculum, which is built individually by the artist, leads to a wide range of content that is fortified by the Institute’s six schools (Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film & Video, Music, and Theater). Since 1970, California Institute of the Arts has set the pace for educating artists, offering a rigorous graduate degree in the programs of Art, Art & Technology, and Photography & Media. The art school has a foundation embedded with feminist discourse, practices dependent on the artist’s actions and voice, and a sense of community. As successive generations of faculty and alumni have helped challenge the idea of an artist as well as shape the landscape of contemporary arts, the Institute encompasses a vibrant, eclectic community with global reach, inviting experimentation, independent inquiry, and active collaboration and exchange among artists, artistic disciplines, and cultural traditions.
