The Berlin Art Book fair MISS READ will take place between July 14 and 16 at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Throughout the weekend, a wide selection of over 230 international publishers, art periodicals, artists and authors will be featured. Founded in 2009, MISS READ is Europe´s Art Book Festival dedicated to building community and creating a public meeting place for discourse around artists’ books, conceptual publications and publishing as practice.
With this year’s special focus on the UK, MISS READ will be composed of a series of lectures, discussions, book launches and workshops, with the common mission of exploring the boundaries of contemporary publishing and the possibilities of the book.
Friday, July 14, MISS READ STAGE will host a talk by ARCH+ and present a panel on critical architecture theory, utopias and discursive practice. Followed by the mini-symposium What’s Love (or Care, Intimacy, Warmth, Affection) Got to Do with It? organized by e-flux and Sternberg Press, hosted by Julieta Aranda and featuring AA Bronson, Antonia Majaca, Brian Kuan Wood and others.
On Saturday, July 15, the 5th Conceptual Poetics Day will explore the imaginary border between visual art and literature. The program will include readings, lectures, performances and book launches by Simon Morris (Information as Material), Sharon Kivland (MA BIBLIOTHÈQUE), Paul Stephens (Convolution Journal), Derek Beaulieu (Jean Boîte Éditions), Alice Maude-Roxby and Stefanie Seibold (Camera Austria), Sanna Marander and Niklas Tafra (Kunstverein Publishing), Cia Rinne, Pavel Büchler and others.
On Sunday, July 16, the MISS READ STAGE will hold lectures, and panel discussions by Alessandro Ludovico, Michael Baers, Heimo Lattner (Drucken Heften Laden), Fucking Good Art, Eva Weinmayr, Rosalie Schweiker and Mirjam Bayerdoerfer (AND Publishing), Ana Bilbao (Afterall), Jan-Frederik Bandel and Tania Prill in conversation with Philipp Goll (Spector Books), Anne Thurmann-Jajes (Zentrum für Künstlerpublikationen Weserburg) and others.
In order to keep MISS READ alive, we occasionally publish fundraising editions, which are generously created by artists such as Pavel Büchler, John Stezaker, Cia Rinne, Haris Epaminonda, Eugen Gomringer and Karl Holmqvist. For more information on the program, the 5th Conceptual Poetics Day, the editions and the exhibitor list go to www.missread.com.
