We are pleased to announce the launch of the spring 2017 issue of VoCA Journal, which focuses on the potential of archives as both repositories and raw material for artists.

In this issue, David Senior (Senior Bibliographer at the Museum of Modern Art Library) chronicles the early days of Franklin Furnace through historical photographs, correspondence, and printed matter; Robin Clark interviews Flavin Judd (Co-Director and Curator of Judd Foundation) and Caitlin Murray (Director of Marfa Programs at Judd Foundation) about the recent publication of Donald Judd Writings; Glenn Wharton (Associate Professor of Museum Studies), Deena Engel (Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Director of the Program in Digital Humanities and Social Science) and Marvin J. Taylor (Director of Fales Library and Special Collections) discuss their David Wojnarowicz Knowledge Base project, developed under the auspices of the Artist Archives Initiative at NYU; and Tanya Zimbardo (Assistant Curator of Media Arts at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) explores how Runa Islam’s work continually engages with the histories of cinema.

VoCA Journal is a digital information-sharing platform for artists and their collaborators. Our contributors—including curators, conservators, registrars, art handlers, collectors, gallerists, fabricators, and those responsible for artist estates and foundations—are invited to discuss innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to the research, display, and conservation of contemporary art. Published three times yearly, VoCA Journal highlights and archives progressive artist-centered projects, thereby creating a dynamic repository for these initiatives while also connecting members of our network both locally and across the globe.

For more information about VoCA or to subscribe to our newsletter, please visit our website at www.voca.network or reach out to our Program Manager, Margaret Graham, at margaret [at] voca.network.
