Konstfack, Sweden’s premier University College of Art, Craft and Design is hosting the first annual Forum on Creativity September 6th and 7th 2006. International figures from the worlds of culture, politics, science, philosophy and business will be gathering in Stockholm to take part in an unscripted debate – before a live audience – on one of the most important and controversial topics of our era: THE LIMITS OF INNOVATION.
Innovation challenges our deepest assumptions and changes the way we work, live and play. But has our reverence for innovation blinded us to its limits, misuse, and risks? Should it ever be possible to pursue innovation at the expense of other virtues that are at least as important to the culture, society and economy? Where should the limits be set on innovation without an apparent purpose? Could it be possible that Joseph A. Schumpeter’s creative destruction has its evil twin: destructive creation? What part has ethics played in the innovative success of scientific research groups, art and design movements, and business strategies that have produced a creative and global impact?
Join us for a dynamic two-day symposium at Konstfack, Sweden’s University for Art, Craft and Design where you will engage with our distinguished speakers – leaders in the fields of culture, business, politics, science, and philosophy in an unscripted seminar before a live audience. This symposium is designed to explore how creativity and the risks of innovation inevitably leads far a field from their original source – into technology, politics, and civic affairs to name a few – and how, in order to come to grips with innovation, we must examine not only its promise, but also its potential downsides.
