Responsibilities of the Senior Curator/Director of the Galleries
Overall responsibilities:
This is a highly visible and responsible position that requires a dynamic and innovative approach to gallery programming and a variety of practical professional skills. The college has two formal galleries: The Levy Gallery is designed to meet the needs of a diverse urban population, and the Paley Gallery focuses on national and international artistic currents. The College also maintains several other auxiliary and off-site exhibition spaces. In September, Moore is launching the first and only undergraduate curatorial studies major in the nation. The Galleries are an important collaborative partner in this new initiative.
Specific Responsibilities include:
• Originate, plan, and curate or select curators for exhibitions for the Paley Gallery and the Levy Gallery.
• In conjunction with exhibitions, develop lectures, symposia, performances, conferences, artists/scholars-in-residence, and community outreach projects.
• Direct the publication of exhibition-related catalogs and announcements
• Plan and coordinate shows in the auxiliary exhibition spaces.
• Work collaboratively with Moore students and faculty members and especially the new Curatorial Studies major.
• Serve as a local and international advocate for the College and its public programming interests through strong collaborative relationships with curators, scholars, artists, architects and designers
• Forge and maintain cooperative relationships within the college and with the arts and culture community in Philadelphia and world-wide.
• Work with the Development Department on fundraising through grant writing, corporate, foundation and individual solicitation, and special events.
• Work with the Communications Department to coordinate public relations and outreach
• Work with the Finance Department to maintain accurate financial records and develop sound budgets.
• Supervise curatorial and operational staff
• Serve as an active member of the President’s Senior Management Team.
The Gallery Senior Curator/Director reports to the President of the College.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience curating exhibitions and managing a gallery.
2. A demonstrated record of successful fundraising for exhibitions and public programs
3. Exceptionally strong presentation, written and spoken communications skills.
4. An ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse constituencies.
5. A passion for art, excellence and collaboration.
6. A relevant arts-related Master’s degree is preferred.
