Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) is the visual arts faculty of the University of Sydney. The SCA Graduate School was established in 2007 and positions SCA at the forefront of contemporary art graduate programs in Australia and internationally. The School delivers a range of professional development Masters degrees in documentary photography, film and digital image, interactive and digital media, and studio art. The School also offers a research Masters and PhD program in contemporary visual art.
The Dean, Professor Colin Rhodes, and the Director of the SCA Graduate School, Associate Professor Brad Buckley, will be interviewing research applicants during their participation in the 2008 CAA Conference in Dallas. Current Students and Alumni
SCA students and alumni participate in national and international exhibitions. David Haines and Joyce Hinterding represented Australia at the 2004 Bienal de Sao Paulo. Shaun Gladwell and Rosemary Laing were selected by Robert Storr for the 2007 Venice Benniale. Marc Newson had a solo show in 2007 at Gagossian Galleries in New York. Tony Schwensen has recently been appointed to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Faculty
The faculty at SCA is highly active across a wide range of contemporary areas from new media, installation and painting, and object design to twentieth century art history and cultural theory. Professor Rhodes’ research is primarily in the areas of twentieth century and contemporary art history and theory, especially Expressionism in its many forms, and Outsider Art. Associate Professor Buckley’s research engages social and cultural values, for example, the rhetorical, political and cultural implications of an Australian republic.
