Community Arts (MFA)
The MFA in Community Arts prepares studio artists who wish to use their work as a means of civic, youth, and community engagement to become leaders in this growing field. Building on the excellence of MICA’s innovative MA in Community Arts (MACA), the 72-credit, two-year program combines focused studio work with extensive real-world experience in community settings. During the first year, students complete the MACA requirements, where a full-time residency in a community organization is integrated with studio and course work on community arts theory and practice. The second year of the MFA/CA is devoted to an independent, community-based art practice that allows students to refine their artistic voice, undertake research, and develop new art forms.

Curatorial Practice (MFA)
The first of its kind in the United States, the groundbreaking MFA in Curatorial Practice will help shape the role of curators as the 21st century. This two-year, 60-credit full-time program prepares leaders and innovators in the field by serving as a laboratory investigating the process and working methods of exhibition creation, and by examining curatorial practice as an artistic, social, and critical pursuit. First-year students will collectively plan and execute an exhibition, while second-year students conceive and organize a self-directed thesis project.

Illustration Practice (MFA)
Recent intellectual, technical, and cultural shifts have led to new opportunities in the field of illustration. Today, there is a focus on cross-pollination and self-publication, with illustrators creating new art practices and finding new markets for their work. MICA’s MFA in Illustration Practice is designed for students who will thrive in this dynamic environment. This 60-credit, two year program prepares students to take advantage of these possibilities, combining coursework that hones their creative vision with real-world collaboration among fellow students, professionals, and organizations including the College’s Dolphin Print & Press and Center for Design Thinking.

Business for Artists & Designers (MPS)
The Masters of Professional Studies in the Business of Art and Design provides artists and designers with a comprehensive education in business and management, enabling them to pursue successful careers as business owners and entrepreneurs. Specifically aimed at creative professionals, the program’s curriculum emphasizes the practical business knowledge needed to start, sustain, and grow an art- or design-based business. Over the course of two summers, students in the low-residency program earn 30 credits through a combination of online instruction and independent study, as well as short-term, MICA-based residencies designed to fit into a working professional’s busy schedule.

Graduate study at MICA offers a rigorous experience for artists, designers, and educators seeking a strongly realized vision and voice, and the knowledge and skills to thrive in the contemporary marketplace. Ranked among the top 4 of 220 graduate schools of art and design by U.S. News and World Report, our highly-competitive and innovative programs are led by faculty of international stature, unmatched studio facilities and academic resources, and a rich schedule of visiting artists, critics, and scholars.
