A presentation of work by current students in the the MFA Studio Program at the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois, selected by Tumelo Mosaka, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Krannert Art Museum. Working through a wide range of themes, these candidates explore the expanded boundaries of our everyday experience while acknowledging the limits of representation. Their restrained approach together with their unassuming portrayals shift meaning towards the viewer. Driven by a desire to connect viewers to familiar things, they transform ordinary materials into poignant visual narratives. Using wire, wood, photographs and video, they recall themes such as loss, alienation, and displacement that evoke a sense of transformation in everyday encounters.
