The program combines cutting-edge technology with seminars, lectures, demonstrations, site visits and gallery walks to support artists interested in hybrid forms and new media in two, three and four dimensions. Current faculty members include: Suzanne Anker, Frank Gillette, Kate Gilmore, Michael Rees, Michael Joaquin Grey and Erik Guzman.
The residency in Sculpture, Installation and New Media Art is the latest phase of a digital initiative launched by the BFA Fine Arts Department in 2008. The initiative entails a significant expansion of the curriculum and facilities, with new courses for non-degree seeking students in animation, basic computing, 3D scanning, and lighting techniques for photography and video, among other digital skill sets.
Located in the heart of New York City’s Chelsea gallery district, the BFA Fine Arts Department studio complex is equipped with digital photography, video, 3D graphics and sound production capabilities; rapid prototyping, laser and CNC routing technologies; and integrated computer workstations that allow artists to create 3D models for output and edit multi-channel audio and video for installation or performance. In addition to the residency in Sculpture, Installation and New Media Art, the facility houses SVA’s residency in Public Art.
