Directed by Ric Burns, this film is a moving portrait of one of the most important artists of the second half of the 20th century and is set within the turbulent and constantly changing context of Warhol’s life and times. Combining on-camera interviews and never-before-seen still and archival footage with the artist’s vast body of work, the film is the first to explore, in depth, the immense Warhol Archives at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Screening courtesy Steeplechase Films, Inc., New York; High Line Productions, Brooklyn; Daniel Wolf, Inc., New York; and Thirteen/WNET, New York.

Public & Artist Interactions
Karen Finley: The Conceptual Studio

Monday–Thursday, July 26–29, 10 am–1 pm, and
Friday, July 30, 10 am–3 pm

Taught by artist Karen Finley and focusing on themes within Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance, this weeklong intensive workshop engages adults in exploring the artistic process. Through experiences of looking at and discussing works of art, writing, drawing, examining personal mementos, and participating in collaborative discussions, participants will formulate their own creative expressions. A final reflection concludes the process.

Best known for her politically engaged and character-driven performance art, Karen Finley (b. 1958, Chicago) provides her audiences with personal access to social issues such as violence against women, the AIDS crisis, and censorship. Some of her recent work includes The Impulse to Suck (2008), The Jackie Look (2010), and Open Hearts, the recently completed Holocaust Memorial in Prenning, Austria (2010). Finley teaches at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. She performs, exhibits, lectures, and conducts workshops internationally.

Public & Artist Interactions is a program of the Sackler Center for Arts Education in which educators and curators work in partnership with artists to develop unique learning experiences that contextualize current exhibitions, the artistic process, and contemporary art. The Jane A. Lehman and Alan G. Lehman Foundation is gratefully acknowledged for its support of Public & Artist Interactions.
