Performance art or the production of ‘live art’ by artists is a vital element in the flourishing contemporary art scene in Asia. Festivals celebrating performance art proliferate in cities across the region and provide significant platforms for interaction, activism, and creative development. In addition to questions concerning the presentation, contextualisation, and reception of performance art, there are many issues surrounding the documentation of this ephemeral art form. From 21—25 October, internationally respected performance artists, archivists, and researchers will gather in Hong Kong to critically discuss the challenges associated with performance work. The aim is not only to provide better resources and a deeper understanding of performance art in the region, but also to further encourage its practice. Action Script is the inaugural event of AAA’s Performance Art Initiative.
Action Script: Symposium on Performance Art Practice and Documentation in Asia is organised by AAA in collaboration with the Centre for Community Cultural Development (CCCD) to announce AAA’s Performance Art Initiative. Over the course of five days, the conference will bring together artists, curators, scholars, students, and others interested in the field in dialogue and debate that will contextualise the exciting evolution of performance art in Asia.
