Over our 23 year history ARTSPACE has been led by seven Directors, each of whom has offered a passionate perspective on contemporary art and its changing conditions. We now seek applications for the role of Director for a three year period from April 2011 to bring a fresh and distinctive vision to leading our programmes in fulfillment of our mission to bridge the experimental to the mainstream, the artist to a critically engaged audience, and New Zealand practice to the rest of the world.
The successful applicant will have experience as a curator or initiator of art projects, a thorough knowledge of contemporary practice, strong networks and sector support, and will ideally hold a post-graduate qualification in a relevant field, and / or have relevant industry experience. We are looking for someone with good editorial skills, to maintain our vital publishing record.
ARTSPACE is guided by a strategic plan set by the Board of Trustees, to whom the Director reports. The Director oversees a small team of staff and volunteers, and liaises with cultural and funding agencies, actively supporting the growth and development of the gallery through patronage and audience development initiatives.
