Full-Time Visiting Faculty in Sound
SMFA seeks a working artist with broad knowledge of the history, theory and practice of sound in the arts, with specialization in digital audio production via Pro Tools and Ableton Live, field recording, circuit bending and DIY electronics, hacking and multichannel sound installation and sculpture. The ideal candidate will also have extensive experience using interactive technologies, including Max/MSP/Jitter and/or other custom hardware and software configurations. The visiting faculty will serve as one of two faculty members in the sound area. Candidates should be prepared to teach three studio courses each semester, advise students and participate in the SMFA community.

Full-Time Visiting Faculty in Text and Image Arts
SMFA seeks an artist/designer with a practice focusing in print- and web-related art, whose work involves text and public interventions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to work across media with students and faculty and should possess both strong design skills and a strong grounding in the theoretical, historical and practical aspects of technology in the arts. Candidates should be able to teach a wide range of theme-based courses for beginner to advanced level students. A background in graphic design, typography, book arts, Web design or programming is a plus.

Founded in 1876, SMFA is one of only three art schools in the country affiliated with a major museum: the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA). The mission of the School is to provide an education in the fine arts—for undergraduate and graduate artists—that is interdisciplinary and self-directed. This education values cultural, artistic and intellectual diversity; it embraces a wide range of media; it stresses the development of individual vision and its relation to culture in general; it values equally the knowledge gained by thinking and doing; it is deeply engaged with the world as a whole. If the mission is constant, its practice is always transforming.

Since 1945, SMFA has partnered with Tufts University for our degree-granting programs including a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Art Education and Master of Fine Arts. Other partnerships include the ProArts Consortium (six Boston-area professional visual and performing arts colleges), Northeastern University and MIT.

SMFA is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity.
