In The Flying Dutchman, various artists from the Netherlands who have gone abroad will discuss these questions. Why did they choose to work elsewhere and how does a different environment affect the creative process? How much is one’s own cultural identity an influencing factor? Theoreticians will place this question in the broader perspective of current debates about identity and ethnicity in the art world.
Guest speakers:
Anke Bangma, curator of contemporary art at the Tropenmuseum (introducer and moderator); Jacob TV ‘avant-pop’ composer; Kerstin Winking, curator of the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam; Theatre director Lotte van den Berg, actress Floor van Leeuwen; Wouter Hillaert, cultural critic; and DJ Boze Man.
dAcapo, the ArtEZ Studium Generale
From talk shows to conferences and lectures, debates, film programmes, workshops, master classes and projects, dAcapo organises special activities throughout the year. These activities explore issues concerning the arts, scholarship and society. Guest lecturers come from both home and abroad, and are selected for their quality, relevance and explicit views.
dAcapo focuses on students and teachers, and also on a general public that is interested in art and culture, and which includes alumni and professional specialists. These arts events forge links between the various arts disciplines. They are meant for everyone looking for the latest developments in the arts, seeking their own artistic boundaries and wishing to discover what moves other people. They are also for those searching for both breadth and depth, and wanting to relate their own work to society and the world of the arts.
