The Graduate School of Art’s 2011 Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum is the culmination of an intensive two-year studio program undertaken by the following students: John Talbott Allen, Meghan Bean, Shira Berkowitz, Darrick Byers, Jisun Choi, Zlatko Cosic, James Daniels, Kara Daving, Andrea Degener, Kristin Fleischmann, William Frank, Nicholas Kania, Katherine McCullough, Jordan McGirk, Zachary Miller, Esther Murphy, Kathryn Neale, Christopher Ottinger, Maia Palmer, Nicole Petrescu, Lauren Pressler, Bryce Olen Robinson, Whitney Sage, Donna Smith.
Students in the Graduate School of Art embrace a variety of innovative practices that blur the boundaries between art and life. The work produced by these students represents tremendous diversity with regard to exploration of ideas, use of materials, methods of production, and strategies of dissemination. Their art is evidence of an intense journey, and is not without risk. The results are at once tantalizing, poetic, satirical, puzzling, and often profound. The Sam Fox School is proud to celebrate their achievements.
About the MFA in Visual Art at the Sam Fox School:
The Graduate School of Art offers a two-year, critically engaged studio program that provides the framework for collaboration and both disciplinary-specific and interdisciplinary study. Our students explore multiple mediums and are deeply committed to investigating ideas and methodologies beyond their studios. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to investigate the relationship between thinking and making. Graduate seminars provide opportunities to study theory through the lens of studio practice. The program prepares students to incite progressive social change, address challenges in the environment, and assume their roles as global citizens.
