PIESP

PIESP is a training program for visual artists and curators who wish to develop and deepen their research and practice in the contemporary field. The second edition of PIESP comes with a 60% tuition reduction and offers seven full scholarships for its participants through special awards. PIESP’s core activity is the weekly critical seminar, during which the processes and production of each participant are presented by him/her and discussed with the group, moderated by one of the program’s interlocutors. PIESP also encompasses lectures and individual meetings with the interlocutors, a group of professionals composed of artists, critics and curators who are active in the Brazilian and international contemporary art circuit.

A group of 16 artists and curators will be selected to participate in the second edition of PIESP, which will run from August 2011 to June 2012. PIESP aims to deepen and complexify the participants’ critical and investigative repertoire, something that is particularly urgent in the context of an expansion of the Brazilian contemporary circuit, marked as it is by the complacency of many of its new agents. PIESP offers a diversified approach to each individual’s production through a dialogue with many interlocutors and their distinct viewpoints. The program is directed by curator Adriano Pedrosa, who conceived the Bolsa Pampulha [Pampulha Grant], in Belo Horizonte, in 2002.

PIESP 2011–12 interlocutors: Adriano Pedrosa (director), Ana Paula Cohen, Carla Zaccagnini (codirector), Luisa Duarte, Marcos Moraes, Rodrigo Moura, Ivo Mesquita, Rivane Neunschwander, Rosângela Rennó and Mauricio Dias.
Seminar leaders: Adriano Pedrosa (second semester) and Carla Zaccagnini (first semester).
