Master of Arts in History of Art and the Art Market: Modern and Contemporary Art: This 15-month program focuses on the history of modern and contemporary art in Europe and the United States from 1850 to the present.
• A required internship allows students to gain the practical skills that will prepare them for a career in the art world. Christie’s Education helps students secure their internship by proposing a wide range of sites, including departments at Christie’s auction house, commercial galleries, museums, corporations, non-profit arts institutions and more.
• A weekly Professional Practices panel brings students into contact with private dealers, gallerists, lawyers and critics. This course examines the structure of the art market as a business and introduces students to its key players, issues and terminology.
• Weekly field studies give students behind-the-scenes access to art production and conservation facilities, museums, private collections and artists’ studios.

Beginning in September and ending in early June, the certificate program runs parallel to the full-time graduate program.
• Certificate students attend the Modern Art Survey lecture course, which meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning as well as the certificate seminar one afternoon per week. Students visit artists’ studios, workshops, foundries, exhibitions, and private collections, among other venues. Additionally, certificate students may attend weekly Professional Practices panels, out-of-town field trips (taken once per term), and special topic lectures.
• The Certificate program is geared toward returning professionals who are looking to apply previously acquired professional skills in an art world setting. Our Certificate students with legal, communications, insurance or business backgrounds have gone on to careers that combine their professional skill sets with their newly acquired knowledge of the art world.
• Students may elect to perform some academic work and receive a certificate at the end of the program if they have satisfied the requirements. They may also attend the lectures and seminars without the pressure of academic work, but no certificate will be awarded.
