First Period: May 23 until June 15, 2011
Second Period: July 15 until August 19, 2011.
CONCEPTION:
A transverse and multidisciplinary approach is an essential aspect of the 3rd study cycles, which lead up to the Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Visual Arts. The thesis can be either only theoretical or theoretical/practical, with the execution of creative works.
One of the main aims of this doctoral programme is to create a specialized academic space dedicated to thought, theory and creation, on Art and Design, and their strict relationship with the use of new technologies and the world of Science. The relationship between Arts & Humanities and Science & Technology is addressed within the three following areas of expertise, which also take into account international tendencies in Art and Design:

The contents of the doctorate course serve the main objectives of the programme: to provide current, multidisciplinary insight on conceptual, formal and practical questions in order to enable research, the development of critical thought, planning, management, design and execution of works, and on the other hand, to stimulate an aesthetic and theoretical perception of the more contemporary tendencies in Visual Arts and related disciplines.
The programme is taught in Portuguese and English.
FACULTY:
Faculty includes professors at University of Évora and invited worldwide-recognized lecturers and experts: Siegfried Zielinski (University of the Arts Berlin, UdK, Germany), Eduardo Kac (media artist, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, SAIC, USA),Norval Baitello Junior (Pontificia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, Brasil); Harum Farocki (artist and filmmaker, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria). DURATION AND CALENDAR
Seminars (Part time on-campus)
– 1st and 2nd semester: Curricular units. Post-employment schedule (Fridays and Saturdays). 1st Semester: September 2011 to January 2012; 2nd Semester: February to July 2012 (In general, Ph.D. seminars will be held twice a month during the 1st semester and once a month during the 2nd semester.)
– From 3rd semester: Research, development and defence of the thesis.

– Curriculum Vitae (academic, professional and/or scientific curriculum)
– University degree and master degree or similar
– Adequacy and qualification of the university degree in one or more related fields
