Kamin Lertchaiprasert—31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit (A Laboratory)
Reception: Friday, September 9, 4:30–7:00 p.m.
Thai artist Kamin Lertchaiprasert expands upon his on-going project 31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit. In collaboration with SAIC students, Kamin and the group present the self as museum, putting on display the contemporary spirit they have located in the experience of everyday life. Artist lecture: Monday, September 12, 12:00 p.m.
September 10–October 8
Kimsooja—Mumbai: A Laundry Field
Reception: Friday, September 9, 4:30–7:00 p.m.
Kimsooja’s four-channel video installation fills vast screens suspended across the galleries. With Chicago as a backdrop, the viewer journeys through Mumbai’s alleyways, laundry districts, commuter rails, and slum streets. Artist lecture: Monday, September 26, 12:00 p.m.
September 10–October 15
CARTOONink! Emerging Comics in Context
Reception: Friday, September 9, 4:30–7:00 p.m.
This exhibition showcases the rapidly evolving landscape of contemporary comics, and features an international roster of breakout comics artists including Jeffrey Brown, Lilli Carré, Anders Nilsen, and Chris Ware.

Ekphrasis: A Response to Jitish Kallat’s Public Notice 3
Location: Chicago Cultural Center, Claudia Cassidy Theater, 77 E. Randolph St.
Free admission
Presented on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 this project was initiated by Indian artist Jitish Kallat’s invitation for response to his work Public Notice 3. This innovative reply features performances of spoken-word poetry by youths from Louder Than a Bomb, Chicago’s teen poetry festival, and Young Chicago Authors, as well as local hip-hop and dance performers. Homi Bhabha will present a related lecture on Sept. 8.

Wolfgang Laib—Unlimited Ocean
More than 30,000 mountains of rice and pollen piles comprise Wolfgang Laib’s installation for the expansive Sullivan Galleries. Laib finds spirituality in the simplicity of these everyday, organic materials, which provide sustenance and engender life. Artist lecture: Monday, October 17, 6:00 p.m., The Art Institute of Chicago, Fullerton Hall, presented with SAIC’s Visiting Artists Program.
