The European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) and Emily Carr University of Art + Design present the 5th annual ELIA Leadership Symposium: “W/Here: Contesting Knowledge in the 21st Century”. The event will gather leaders from higher arts education institutions and universities across the globe to Vancouver, Canada for an important and timely discussion on the changing role of art education in the 21st century.

 

With registered participants from over 20 countries, W/Here will serve as a studio experience for leaders in the fields of higher arts education who are interested in understanding how to meet the challenges of the changing context of learning.

 

SPEAKERS

 

A combination of presentations and facilitated discussions with artists, designers, musicians, educators, administrators and cultural workers with a commitment to the role of higher arts education will take place over three days. Select speakers include:

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

 

The symposium will address the following key themes:

 

Have We Ever Been Modern: The Transformation of the Learning Space
Dispersed Learning: Knowledge and Expertise in Arts and Design
Open Source: Leading Through Access

 

Delegates will be able to participate in mobile workshops taking place at various Vancouver cultural spaces to experience how these themes manifest in the configurations of arts organisations today. Select workshops include:
