The University of Essex has been delivering postgraduate curating and museology degree courses for 25 years. Our Centre for Curatorial Studies (CCS) is based within the School of Philosophy and Art History, which offers a unique interdisciplinary environment for those wishing to critically engage with the disciplines of museology and curatorial theory and practice in innovative rigorous ways.
Our CCS students also benefit from close contact with the Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA) and the University’s gallery Art Exchange, both of which present programmes of international contemporary art and offer valuable resources for teaching and research. We also have partnerships with London galleries and regional arts organisations, including the newly re-opened firstsite, which is now housed in the internationally acclaimed Raphael Vinõly building.
One of the UK’s top ten universities for the quality of our research, and a world leader in the social sciences, the University of Essex was founded nearly fifty years ago. We are in the top twenty mainstream English universities for student satisfaction, and have a strong track record in attracting students from a diverse range of backgrounds. We have three campuses in Essex, and are among the most internationally diverse universities in Britain, with more than one third of our 11,000 students coming from outside the UK.
