Master of Research in Art and Design 2012–13
In the academic year 2012–2013, the St Lucas University College of Art & Design Antwerp (Belgium) will organize a one-year postgraduate research program, ‘Master of Research in Art and Design,’ for the sixth year in a row. The program is composed of both practical and theoretical seminars and masterclasses, focusing on research in the visual arts, and is determined individually by each student in function of a personal, artistic research question. Guest professors and lecturers will guide the student throughout his or her artistic research project. At the end of the program, the result of this research will be evaluated by professionals and will be presented in a public exhibition and publication. The Master of Research in Art & Design aspires to function as a platform, both transmitting and stimulating research in the field of the visual arts.

To enroll for this Master, the candidate has to present his or her research question to the admission board in an interview.

The enrolment fee is 1,000 EUR.

Students are responsible for finding their own workspace. In agreement with the coordinator, a workspace might be found on one or other campus.

For more detailed information, please contact Wesley Meuris, coordinator of the Master of Research in Art & Design: [email protected].

Supervision of the artistic research
To ensure a fruitful and dynamic relationship between art and research, the students’ supervision is organised according to three complementary training sections: production, documentation, and presentation. This corresponds to the actual intertwining of practice and theory, production, presentation, distribution, and documentation found in contemporary art. Each of these sections is taught by a lecturer who will provide a research framework in which the students will position themselves. These lecturers also supervise the artistic research projects of each student. Moreover, international guest speakers are regularly invited who, from a range of critical perspectives, will analyse, situate and interpret the work of the students within the contemporary artistic discourse. In addition, group discussions are organised in each training section to help students sharpen their artistic profile.

Team: Wesley Meuris (Artistic Project), Hilde Van Pelt (Documentation/Dissemination), Pieter Vermeulen (Presentation & Curatorial Context)
