From Boston and São Paulo to Paris and Dubai, each year Master’s students at Sotheby’s Institute of Art travel the globe to study important works of art in some of the most celebrated arts and cultural institutions and private collections around the world. As a distinguishing feature of the Sotheby’s Institute experience, academic travel emphasizes the Institute’s belief that interacting with objects and experiencing artworks firsthand is the best way to gain a thorough understanding of art in its historical, contemporary and market contexts.
At its core, academic travel helps prepare students for their future careers as dealers, curators, advisors, auction house specialists, writers, critics and many other art related professions. In addition to local events and attractions around the Institute’s central London and New York campuses, each Master’s programme plans national and international study trips to current exhibitions, fairs, biennials, and events, providing students with direct cultural, aesthetic and professional experience.
