On December 14th and 15th, the International Center of Photography in New York will host Memories Can’t Wait, a two-day symposium jointly organized by the ICP-Bard MFA program and the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College MA program. The symposium investigates the different artistic strategies used to rethink ways to produce, document, and archive forgotten, ambiguous, traumatic, or marginalized memories.

On December 14th, individuals from myriad disciplines and institutions will convene to present work and discuss these topics. Any interested individuals or groups are encouraged to present workshops, panels, works in progress, performances, or research engaged with these topics. To present, please submit a brief description of your project, consisting of a few sentences describing its contents, and how your ideas inform the themes of the symposium.

Throughout these two days, artists, writers, curators and archivists will convene for panel conversations around these concerns. Panelists include Ann Butler, Ulrike Müller, Pradeep Dalal, David Deitcher, Renèe Green, Mariam Ghani, Marvin Heiferman, Marget Long, Erin Barnett and Jesal Kapadia.

The conference investigates
- How does personal memory and imagination, in the absence of verifiable information, create new meaning?
- How can personal accounts coexist with political or historic narratives?
- How can archives be built to honor the time-sensitive and ephemeral nature of its artifacts?
– How do these methods inform the ways that history gets recorded?
- How can image proliferation sustain critical activity within digital contexts?

To submit a presentation, please send a brief proposal to [email protected]

Please check the following sites for added panelists, how to present, and schedules of both days:
