Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is pleased to present the eighth season of the Urban Field Speakers Series, co-programmed by Janine Marchessault and Scott McLeod and presented by Prefix ICA in association with the Visible City Project and Archive of York University. This international lecture series brings together an array of global and local participants, including artists, architects, curators, designers and scholars, who offer unique perspectives on the role of art in transforming the experience of the city. Past series have featured presentations by such erudite speakers as Chantal Mouffe, Saskia Sassen, Anthony Vidler, Peter Weibel and Krzysztof Wodiczko, among many others.

Sarah Robayo Sheridan, moderator
The Japanese artist speaks about his extraordinary site-specific installations that recontextualize and revivify our relationships with public monuments, including his most recent project, Discovering Columbus, in New York’s Central Park. Moderated by the Director of Exhibitions and Publications at Mercer Union.

Sally Frater, moderator
The interdisciplinary artist and Director of Intermedia Initiatives, Fine Arts, at Parsons The New School for Design speaks about her recent work on the Plaza de la Revolución in Havana, comparing and contrasting it with active public spaces in other parts of the world. Moderated by Sally Frater, independent curator and arts writer. Co-presented by Latin American-Canadian Art Projects (LACAP) and Third Space Art Projects.

Peggy Gale, moderator
The Curator at Wiels Contemporary Art Center and co-editor of The Manifesta Decade and The Biennial Reader speaks about the notion of public space in the work of Félix González-Torres. Moderated by Peggy Gale, independent curator and recipient of a 2006 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts.

Will Straw, moderator
The architectural historian and Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies, Visual Studies and German at the University of California, Irvine, speaks about Mies van der Rohe and the moving image. Moderated by the Director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. Co-presented by the Goethe-Institut Toronto.

Lee Rodney, moderator
The award-winning architect and Associate Professor in Public Culture and Urbanism at the University of California, San Diego, speaks about the alternative housing and public infrastructure that has emerged around the San Diego–Tijuana border, the most trafficked checkpoint in the world. Moderated by Lee Rodney, Associate Professor of Art History and Visual Culture at the School of Visual Arts, University of Windsor.

Series pass sales
Series passes are available for 40 CAD. Special series passes, discounted for students, seniors and Prefix Photo subscribers, are available for 25 CAD.
