The American University in Cairo is proud to present ECHO, an exhibition of the work of its 27 graduating art students. This large-scale event will be held in the Sharjah Art Gallery at the AUC center for the arts, featuring video works, photography, performances, installation, painting and sculpture, concluding years of multi-disciplinary study and experimentation.
ECHO is conceived in collaboration with the class “Thinking about Exhibitions,” which over the past months created a curatorial framework for the individual art projects, taking the form of a publication to be presented as part of the exhibition.
The Art Program in AUC’s Department of the Arts provides students with a space for creative practice in a cross-disciplinary environment emphasizes theory, practice, and critical inquiry. Offering students an experimental platform for creative freedom and innovation, the program encourages students to challenge mainstream conceptions of visual art, engage in critical self-awareness of their own art practice, and establish a broader understanding of the issues and contexts that inform art practice in today’s local and global visual cultures. Grounded in the belief that the visual arts are a fundamental force in society, the program prepares future art practitioners for critical work within the region’s emerging post-revolution cultural environment and the broader global art world.
